Dr. Pieter H. Heemstra, D.M.D.

Dentist and Owner

Dr. Heemstra was born in The Netherlands and moved to Los Angeles, CA at the age of 3. He then moved to a small town, Naselle, in Washington State at the age of 12 until he graduated high school in 2002.

His life in Pittsburgh started in 2002 when he chose to attend The University of Pittsburgh on academic scholarship. He graduated in 2006 on Dean’s List honors with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and minor in Chemistry.

Dr. Heemstra attended The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and graduated in 2010 Magna Cum Laude with national awards. He spent four years doing research on stem cells harvested from extracted wisdom teeth and presented at national symposiums.

In August, 2010 he purchased this office from Dr. Dennis Borodaty, D.M.D., who practiced here for 34 years. Dr. Heemstra continues the legacy of providing high-quality, compassionate dentistry to the Mon Valley and surrounding areas.

Dr. Heemstra has 4 beautiful children, Lucyanna, Audrielle, Cecette and Hallston and a loving and supporting wife, Katie. He enjoys spending time with his family, working on home improvement projects and helping out his neighbors and friends.

Janine Tolliver

Lead Dental Hygienist

Janine has been an integral part of our team since 2010. Her care and dedication to our patients is evident every day. She provides a dental cleaning that is thorough, efficient and comfortable leaving your teeth feeling clean and fresh.

She has 3 children, Rhiana, Evan and Derek and a loving husband, Steve. She enjoys spending time with her family and is a very talented baker.

Kelly Backstrom

Office Manager and Dental Assistant

Kelly keeps our office running smoothly and efficiently every day. She is always ready to help our patients in any way possible. Whether that is answering questions about insurance, taking an x-ray or jumping in and assisting Dr. Heemstra. She has years of experience in all aspects of dentistry and strives to keep you informed and comfortable at our practice.

She has a loving family with two children, Jack and Addie, and husband Joe. Kelly likes to spend time with her family and enjoys camping and outdoor activities.

LeLanie Henry

Dental Assistant

LeLanie’s kind and positive attitude creates a comfortable and caring environment for every patient that visits us. She genuinely cares for your safety and encourages all patients so they look and feel their best. It’s not unusual for her to hold your hand, offer you a refreshing cup of water or give you a hug… anything it takes so you have the best dental visit possible.

She has a daughter, Darryn and lives in Bethel Park. She loves spending time outside and enjoys taking care of animals.
